OEKC Round 3 – Whilton Mill
May 20th 2012

Another Bad Day.

After the misfortunes of the last race at Milton Keynes we once again had high hopes for this race at Whilton Mill where we had completed a lot of testing. This was also the first race in which we had used the new radio equipment.

We immediately started with problems. After the first few laps in practice we discovered our brake problems of past had arisen again. We changed brake pads but to no avail. We tried cooling the brakes as they seem to have overheated but it would appear the disc was glazed.

We marched on with the same issues and qualified 10th. Richard started the race and started to move up the field into 3rd position before the first fuel stop and driver change. Reece continued the chase and moved further forward to 2nd position. Jon continued with his best drive of the year so far and maintained position. As the race played out we held 2nd position and fastest lap with 3rd place 2 laps behind us.

Disaster struck! We had 30mins till the end of the race when we made our final fuel stop and driver change. When we proceeded to start the engine the kart wouldn?t start. We were very appreciative when many teams came to help us. We realised the starter motor had failed and tried to get it to spin for one final time. We managed to start the Kart but lost many laps in the process. We joined the track in 17th position and worked hard to finished where we started. 10th position.
