OEKC Round 2 – Sandown Park
April 14th 2013

We arrived at Sandown Park for round two of the OEKC championship. This was an unknown for all teams as this marked the first time the OEKC had raced here. There was one test session in the week prior to the event but we were unable to attend. We assessed the track in the morning and set up the kart as we thought best for the race. We were immediately on the pace setting competitive times within a few laps. Reece did his usual magic trick during qualifying and placed us on the front row of the grid, albeit 2nd this time! When lining the karts on the grid for the start, we noticed the chassis had cracked again in the same place as before. We judged it safe to race and continued knowing that we would be limping slightly.

Once the race started, the front runners set a very fast pace which we were a part of. Around 30mins into the race and we were still second and battling for No.1 position. Reece showed good pace and pitted in second position. After 3 hours, we were still in second position and quite a few laps ahead of third. Once again, disaster struck! Another kart turned in on us which took us off of the track with a broken steering column. The kart had to be recovered to the pits for repair. We managed to repair the kart and rejoined the race in 18th position. We raced hard to finish the day 9th and bring home points which we hope will be valuable for the championship.
